Bangkok is a huge and vibrant city. Full of never ending events and many touristic attractions. The city also known as Venice of East, it surely has many artificial canals, or called ‘Big Mango’ by locals (probably because you can find mango sticky rice on every corner, but that is just only my guess). You won’t be surprised to hear that Bangkok is the most visited city in the world. And there are many reasons why.
In Bangkok everything was floating on water except temples till XIX century. Many canals were dug up in the city and you can use it these days.
Seize the opportunity to grab a boat and visit as many temples as possible. Magnificent unseen anywhere else buildings have it own story to tell you. Make the right decision depending on location which wats (temples) to visit during a day. Remember, Bangkok is a huge city.
Temples (Wats) we recommend
Reclining Buddha – it is one of the most popular places in Bangkok. If you are coming to the city, you already know that you have to visit it.
Wat Suthat – the big sitting Buddha is waiting for you there. You know that buddhist say that Buddha is always watching you and there you can really feel that.
Golden Mount – it is not exactly a temple, but it’s a sacred place built on the top of a hill, so you can see quite spectacular view.
Marble Temple – this is a special temple complex where monks live nearby. You can enjoy the beautiful temple, play drums, feed fish or enter the monks streets. It’s magical!
Wat Chana Songkhram – in Asia you never know what you will see on another corners. This temple is a good example. It is hidden between the street and you need to be patient to find it.
In Thailand you can see a lot of Buddhas in one place. But if you will go to the statues factory in Bangkok, you will be shocked how many they can make.
You think that they visiting great monuments without people is impossible, right? Well, that’s not absolutely true. It all depends on time. And I am not suggesting visit it right away when it opens, there is a better solution. All tourists are afraid of rain. Probably because where they came from raining associates with getting wet and catching a cold. But here it’s all way around. Raining here is like a prayer from the sky. It’s refreshing and even warm enough to enjoy it! So take it as advantage and use it as a playground.
Photographers use it as a trick to shoot empty monuments. You can use this opportunity too.
Bangkok is romantic
Bangkok is a good place for couples. If you would enjoy spending a romantic dinner on one the rooftops in the middle of Bangkok, this city will make your dream come true. You can take your spouse on one of the 20 rooftops. While enjoying the sunset it is the best time for warm hugs and cuddles. This experience can be mind blowing when you actually took to Bangkok from 84th floor after a long day exploring it. And then, only then, you realize what a small part of the city you had familiarize with. We enjoyed spending our evening on the rooftop bar and watching Bangkok city lights.
First of all, Bangkok is one big market. You can go shopping from touristic outlets to handicrafts or home-grown boutiques selling street-wise fashions and stunning contemporary decor. There you will find many, many local markets where half the fun is watching the crowds. One of the best market is Chatuchak (JJ) local Market. It is the biggest market with more than 8,000 stalls! Go there and you’ll definitely find something to bring back home as a long lasting memory.
Another market that we enjoyed a lot is called Rod Fai market. It is a vintage market, where you can find many goods, local food and the best part is that there is an exhibition with old cars. It like a candy for your eyes! You have to check this out.
Scams in Bangkok
If you ever been to any touristic country, you know that there is always trick to gain some money from the tourists. But in Bangkok we found the trick really interesting. The guy will come to you and say that it is Thailand national holidays and that the tuk tuk drives cheaper today and lastly, that it is the last day to use this opportunity. Of course you will fall into this lie and we actually did. Then the tuk tuk will take you through the main monuments, which is great, but he will also take you to special sewing places where you can make a nice suit or dress. Justinas even tried one. It is hard to say no for them, so it’s better to avoid this comment Bangkok scam.
P.S. Bangkok is amazing, you will always have what to do even if you stay there for two weeks or month.
